Finally I have come to the end of the end of the year list. This actually went a lot faster than I thought it would. I guess I could have dragged it on longer but 10 albums a day is good. I hope you all have enjoyed my lists, and I can't wait to do it next year. So without further ado here are my top 10.

Albums of the Year: 50-41

Tonight will be the first installment of my top albums of the year. I was going to do 40 albums, but when I was compressing a list of almost 150 I had to go to 50. These are of albums that I have heard. Therefore, there may be better stuff out there that I haven't listened to. I'm always open to suggestions on stuff to listen to, so send me band that should have made the list. Again this is one man's opinion and I hope you enjoy it.

Song of the Day 12.15.11

Jimmy Eat World is one of my favorite bands of all time. They are catchy and all their songs hold meaning of some sort. One of my favorites by them is off their newest album and it is actually the title track off the album. Here is Jimmy Eat World with Invented

Song of the Day 12.14.11

I have recently discovered the wonderful music of Frank Turner. His lyrics are amazing and the music is incredible. He came out with an album this year called England Keep My Bones and I started listening to it today. I wanted to listen to it to see if it was going to crack my top albums list for the year, and let me just say that it most definitely will. So without further ado here is Frank Turner with If Ever I Stray

Song of the Day 12.13.11

Today marked the last day of the semester for me. Next semester will be my last at SDSU and frankly I couldn't be happier. I took a class this semester on Psychedelic Rock of the 1960s, which was the best class choice ever. And I couldn't have finished off in a better way than with that class tonight. In honor of it I will go back to the 1960s and pick a song that we listened to in class from earlier in the semester, but it was one of my favorites that we had. Here is Moby Grape with Omaha

Song of the Day 12.12.11

So I didn't post last night, I was too busy having fun at the second night of Wrex The Halls. The bands were incredible last night starting with MuteMath and capping off with Social Distortion and Blink 182. Tonight's song is from night one actually and that is because after seeing this band live I had to go get the album. The name Noel Gallagher will spark images of the great band Oasis (and their ultimate ego filled demise). Both Noel and Liam are on different projects now and this one is incredible. Here is Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds with AKA...What A Life

Song of the Day 12.10.11

This weekend 91X is hosting their annual holiday concert. This year they are doing two nights and each night has an amazing line up. Tonight's show features Florence and the Machine, Death Cab For Cutie, Noel Gallagher, Cage The Elephant, The Airborne Toxic Event, and The Naked and the Famous. So in honor of tonight I give to you a song from one of the bands. Here is Sometime Around Midnight by The Airborne Toxic Event

Song of the Day 12.9.11

I just recently picked up the new album by The Maine. Normally this is a band that I would skip over because their sound is a bit generic and a little poppy. However, on their new album Pioneer (sweet album cover by the way) they changed their sound up a bit and in my opinion it is for the better. It's a little more southern and a little more edgier in some spots. This song is a more laid back tune, but it feels right with the lyrics. Especially when all we want is to go back and listen to that good old rock and roll. Here is The Maine with While Listening To Rock and Roll

Song of the Day 12.8.11

Every day the question comes to mind, what am I going to listen to during the day? What type of mood am I going to be in and what music is going to aid that mood? Every day is different. One day a song can sound amazing, the next you don't want to hear it. Amazing how things work. This has absolutely nothing to do with the song of the day I just thought I would share. You might recognize this song from a recent Apple commercial, here is Grouplove with Tongue Tied

Song of the Day 12.7.11

Yesterday one of my favorite bands came out with their newest album and it is INCREDIBLE! It will most likely make my top 40 list which is coming up very very soon. So not a whole lot more to say, but here is Chevelle with the title track of their new album Hat's Off To The Bull

Song of the Day 12.6.11

This song holds a lot of meaning to me. A lot more now than it did, and it is a really great an beautiful song at that. Again an older song, I say old but really it's been 7 years since it came out. Hard to believe 2004 was 7 years ago. Anyways here is Keane's Somewhere Only We Know

Song of the Day 12.5.11

Back in the late 90s a band came out with an incredible debut album. This story could go for any band at the time. Alternative rock was the thing, everybody was listening to it. And much like the Nicklebacks and Hinders of today they all sounded the same. There needed to be a band that could appeal to the masses but create a sound that was all their own as well. Third Eye Blind did that perfectly. Their self titled debut album is a masterpiece of alternative rock in my opinion. That is why today's song of the day comes off said album. I give you one of my favorite songs (and a question I ask myself everyday) here is Graduate by Third Eye Blind

Song of the Day 12.4.11

I saw La Dispute open for Thrice about two weeks ago. At the time I had heard of the band, but never really gave them a listen. Let me tell you these guys are incredible live and know how to get a crowd engaged. So without further ado I give you one of my favorite songs by them off their newest album Wildfire (which will appear on my end of the year list) here is La Dispute with Harder Harmonies

Song of the Day 12.3.11

So a bright idea crossed my mind last night (with the help of a really good friend) to post a song of the day each day for you all. I don't know why I didn't think of this before, it just makes sense. So to start things off I give you Colly Strings by Manchester Orchestra. These guys are incredible and this song is so powerful. My favorite line has to be "Don't stop calling, you're the reason I love losing sleep." Awesome, awesome, awesome

For Those Keeping Count..

I won't list the bands I've only seen once again, but I am going to create a list of those I've seen more than once. And there is one top band that I have seen the most. No ties here. At least not yet

2: Anberlin, Bad Religion, Brooks and Dunn, Foo Fighters, Jason Aldean, Lamb of God, Linkin Park, Luke Bryan, Passion Pit, Rodney Atkins, System of a Down, Tool

3: AFI, Chris Young, Rise Against, Tim McGraw

4: Thrice

Thrice has always put on an amazing show. The last time I saw them was just very recently as you can see from my last post and it was the first time I saw them headline. They are incredible live. Unfortunately, they are taking a hiatus at the moment and focusing on other things. But I will have the privilege of seeing Dustin Kensrue perform solo next year. I can't wait!

Concerts

I went through my concert tickets just now to see who I've seen over the years and let's just say there are quite a few bands. My very first concert was when I was 5 years old; I saw Garth Brooks. Since then I went to a few concerts here and there and have definitely picked it up in the past few years. There is nothing as spectacular as the live experience. I will sum them up for you as best I can

June 6, 2003: New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, MXPX
Nov 1, 2003: AFI, Blood Brothers, Death By Stereo
Feb 17, 2004: Linkin Park, POD, Hoobastank, Story of the Year
Apr 8, 2005: Slipknot, Lamb of God, Shadows Fall
Aug 6, 2005: System of a Down, The Mars Volta

Mar 15, 2006: Korn, Mudvayne, 10 Years
Mar 20, 2007: Tool

Day 1

I have thought about starting a blog for a while on music. I just never got around to it till now. I don't really know what the structure will be for this and I also don't know how often I am going to post on here. But when I have a thought it will be thrown out there. Mostly I am looking at doing reviews and lists and anything else that might come out of my head. I feel that I have enough credentials to do this and know what I am talking about when it comes to music. I own A LOT of CDs. Yes those outdated things that still are being sold that I still buy on a weekly basis because I love collecting them. My collection is so large that the other day I went through and organized/alphabetized them; it took me almost 4 hours to do. I don't know how many I own, but I'm somewhere north of 1000. Anyways, I will begin to post reviews on these albums as I go a long and weekly reviews on what new things come out. Not so much now, but maybe starting at the beginning of the year when new releases come out. I will also post concert reviews. I go to a lot of those as well, and have seen many great shows over the years. So that's about it for an introduction to what this is. Welcome to Music From Regions Beyond
