Song of the Day 1.20.12

In the late 1960s no man inspired more artists and music than Ravi Shankar. The sitar and Indian classical music can be heard in so many songs during the time ranging from The Byrds to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. The man was everywhere. George Harrison spent a lot of time with Ravi and thus influenced a lot of The Beatles music. It can be heard most notably in Tomorrow Never Knows off their album Revolver. Tonight's song is from Ravi Shankar's performance at The Monterey International Pop Festival. The festival is most famous for Jimi Hendrix's performance that culminated in setting his guitar on fire. Here is Ravi Shankar (not entirely sure the name of this piece).
